I had no idea that I would end up one day living in Japan for a few years. I knew little about the country when I volunteered to be transferred there for work. Now that I am back home, I found myself really wishing I could do some of things I did there such as watching a Japanese drama late at night with a nice cup of tea. I also loved going to the zoo there to see the many animals that we don’t have in my birth country. I loved to roam the countryside to look at the beautiful architecture of the old farms, too.
Because I don’t have the ability to do so many of the things that I used to love so much when living there, I try to find some small ways here and there to fulfill my need. For example, I can now watch Japanese dramas on the Internet. I can also order some really amazing teas from there as well now. There’s a great little Japanese website that I found, and they ship to me rather quickly. They have such a nice array of different types of teas to choose from. I even ordered some of their great tea cups that have no handles on them. You hold them with your palms wrapped around either side of the cups, and it’s so warm and inviting feeling in the autumn and winter.
One day, I hope to go back again to visit. I miss it. I highly doubt that I will ever have the luxury of living there once again like I did in the past. But for now, I am happy to be able to go online to get my fix. Last night I logged in and watched several of their programs back-to-back. I curled up in a quilt and smiled happily as I watched my favorite shows.
Many of the buildings in my neighborhood are upgrading their roofs in anticipation of a rough winter ahead. The chairperson of our beautification committee found a company that offers roof replacement in Manhattan NY for a very reasonable price. Because we’re all doing it, we’re coordinating the work time between all of the tenants to provide the least amount of disruption possible. It’s great that everyone is able to come together and plan this out together, as it’s a project that will really improve not only the look of our buildings, but the overall effectiveness of the roofs.
In addition to replacing the roofs, we’ve also agreed to additional improvements that we will undertake. One such project is the replacement of the awnings in front of each building. These are great for keeping people covered from the elements, but they do fade over time. My awning used to be a really nice deep blue color, but now it’s looking like more of a pastel. This is a small home improvement project that can be done in a short amount of time, and it doesn’t require a lot of money. Continue reading We Are Replacing Our Roof Next Week
I am going to sell my house in the near future, or hopefully it won’t take that long until I feel the house is ready to go on the market for a good price. I do not want to sell it until I fix it up more, until a point where I think it will sell for an amount that I am going to be happy with. I am trying to be thorough in this process and I am going to hire a electrician in New Jersey to come do an inspection on the wiring in the house, because I feel that is pretty important. My dad always reminded me growing up that one day I would have a house of my own and it would be important to respect it and take care of it. He mentioned this often when I would chase around after him on a weekend asking him why he was fixing the fence, the plumbing or something else that needed to be done. During one particular week, he said we needed roof replacement in Queens because it had gone too long without having some major work done. He used this event to point out to me just how quickly something that isn’t taken care of can turn into something even bigger.
Dad was not always good about getting things done around the house. Continue reading I Learned an Important Lesson from My Dad
Obviously you need to have ability and perseverance if you want to be a professional musician. Right now I am trying to make the calculation as to how much sense it makes to do what I really want and study at a Singapore music school to learn some of the things that I do not really know just yet. I am not good enough to make a living at it right now, that much I am pretty sure of. However the question that I have is whether or not I would ever be able to really make a living at it. I am sure that I could be happy if I did reasonably well. For example the likeliest outcome is that you end up teaching at a school. Continue reading Trying to Become a Musician
I have become the type of person that prefers to live in a small home to have more money to travel around the globe. I have been to many countries in the past few years and one of those places happens to be on the opposite side of the globe. I was so in love when I went to Australia. I knew that I wanted ti immigrate to Australia as soon as I landed. The warm winter was so peaceful to me. If that was as cold as it was going to get, I knew that I was going to be able to get used to the climate very easily and I looked forward to learning how to become a citizen. It is a big thing to move. It is even a bigger thing to move from one country to the next. I have packed things to be placed into a moving truck that moved our residence from one part of the island to a condo several miles away. Packing for a move across the ocean to a new country is different. Knowing your stuff is going to be packed into a container that is on a ship moving across the water takes some more prep. We contacted a moving company in Singapore to get the job done for us. We wanted to make sure every item made it to our new home.
You do not only have to really take your time in wrapping and securing fragile items, you need to consider customs in your new land as well. Continue reading Moving Long Distances Require Some Forethought
