When I first moved to Singapore, I didn’t exactly have my priorities straight. Instead of looking for a dentist or doctor as the first order of business, I looked for a good hair salon and the best seafood restaurant in the area. I knew that I would be using those places first, because my annual examination was not due for several more months for either one. I was not counting on getting sick, and then not being able to recover quickly. My neighbor told me I should do a search for Singapore TCM and find a doctor that way.

I was really excited when I learned that my dad had earned the chance to be the manager who runs the overseas division of his company and we were moving to Singapore. At first, I wondered if we would live in one of the tiny apartments that are so popular there. I soon learned that we would be living at the New Futura in Singapore, which is an amazing building to live in. I was proud of my dad for doing so well, and I felt like a lucky girl to have such luxury in life. Most people my age do not have the good fortune of finishing out high school in another country.
Back home, I hung around a lot of people who were pretty snobby. I didn’t purposely set out to be friends with the most popular kids in school. I simply tried to be myself, and somehow I ended up with the in-crowd. I found that most of them were obsessed with clothing, celebrities and acting cool. I also found that none of them had their sights set on getting into the best colleges after school. None of them knew what they wanted to do with their lives.
